Dear friends,

Nehalem Bay Community Services end of year donation banner - teal and red

Greetings and Happy Holidays from Nehalem Bay Community Services (NBCS). Yes, we took a big step this year and launched a new 501(c) (3), nonprofit agency with the goal of providing and advocating for a broad range of services to our North Tillamook County community.  Putting a new organization together while providing a broad range of critical services to our community with an all volunteer staff is challenging, but we are up to it!

Currently, we are in the process of conducting a Needs Assessment within our client community to gain a fuller understanding of the services, programs and advocacy needed to ensure that we are truly seeing from the community perspective where we and others can be most effective. Thanks to support from folks like you who donate time and money to these efforts, we have been able to strengthen our programs and increase our capacity to serve.

Last fall, a grandmother and her three grandchildren came to the Food Pantry and Clothing Bank looking for support. They were living in a tent. With careful and continued support we were able to help them find and move into an apartment as well as set up their kitchen and provide beds and linens for the overjoyed family as they moved off the streets into their new home. The Food Pantry and Clothing Bank is open 16 hours a week year around.

Each fall parents register their children with our CHILD Christmas program where just prior to the big day they come and pick up items carefully selected for their children.  A bounty of everything from bicycles to toys and clothing is available to help families struggling to make ends meet have a happy and memorable holiday. During the summer, parents can submit an application for the Back to School portion of the program. Community members shop for supplies, back packs and clothing all carefully selected for each child and families are able to send their children to the first day of school in a new outfit, selected just for them, and shiny new back pack filled with critical school supplies.

Lunches for Seniors are prepared and served in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Deliveries are also made to our homebound.  As one home bound client remarked, “The kind volunteers who bring me the most delicious, home-cooked meals are the bright spot in my day.”

Munch a Lunch is a program that provides lunches for children during school breaks such as summer. The lunches are put together and delivered to various “grab & go” locations throughout North County.

Chair Exercise offered each Monday and Thursday and it’s free.  Drop ins welcome.
